President Jokowi Emphasizes ASEAN Agenda 2045 Needs The Role Of Parliament

LABUAN BAJO - President Joko Widodo emphasized that before the ASEAN Interparliament Council (AIPA) the role of parliament is very much needed in compiling the 2045 ASEAN agenda.

President Jokowi conveyed this when opening the Face-to-face Meeting of ASEAN-AIPA Leaders in the series of the 42nd ASEAN Summit at the Meruorah Convention Center, Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, Wednesday, May 10.

"In the long term, the role of parliament is also very much needed to draw up the ASEAN agenda in 2045," Jokowi said in his opening remarks as reported by ANTARA.

ASEAN-AIPA leaders, Jokowi continued, must be able to ensure that ASEAN is able to be more responsive and resilient to the challenges that exist so that it becomes a center of growth and becomes a safe, stable, and democratic area.

President Jokowi also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the government and parliament in order to maintain and strengthen political and democratic stability to ensure ASEAN as the center of world growth.

President Jokowi also appreciated the parliamentary support of AIPA members in efforts to deal with the critical times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Policies during the pandemic emergency can be carried out quickly and ASEAN can go through a critical period," he said.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and President AIPAPuan Maharani were present to directly lead the delegation of representatives of AIPA.

Previously, on Tuesday (9/5), Puan said that the Face-to-face Meeting of ASEAN-AIPA Leaders was an important forum as a forum for dialogue and cooperation between ASEAN leaders and parliaments who were members of AIPA.

"ASEAN-AIPA Leaders Interface is an important platform for dialogue and consultation between ASEAN Leaders and AIPA," he said.
