Smoke From Mount Anak Krakatau Rises 200 Meters Above The Top Of The Crater

JAKARTA - The height of the smoke from Mount Anak Krakatau was observed to be white with a light to medium intensity and a height of 25-200 meters above the crater peak in the Sunda Strait waters between Banten and Lampung.

"The condition of Mount Anak Krakatau is visually clear as a volcano," said Deny Mardiono, an official for preparing the report which was uploaded via the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' website, the Volcanology Agency PVMBG, Mount Anak Krakatau Pasauran Observation Post, Anyer, Serang Regency, Friday 17 February.

The condition of Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait Waters is still at Alert Level III and PVMBG recommends a five-kilometer radius, fishermen, the public, tourists, and climbers are prohibited from approaching the top of the crater of Anak Krakatau which is 157 meters above sea level (masl).

From Thursday (16/2) at 06.00 to 12.00 WIB the activity of Mount Anak Krakatau emitted crater smoke with a height of between 25 -200 meters and weak to moderate pressure, observed to be white with light and moderate intensity.

He explained that currently the weather in the Sunda Strait waters was overcast and raining and the wind was blowing weakly to the east. Volcanic seismicity occurred three times with an amplitude of 67-71 millimeters, S-P 1.9 - 2.7 seconds, and a duration of 15-28 seconds.

Meanwhile, the economic activities of the coastal communities from Anyer Beach to Carita Beach, Pandeglang Regency, were relatively normal, not affecting the activities of Mount Anak Krakatau which is located in the waters of the Sunda Strait.

"We continue to sell around the Carita Market and are not affected by the activities of Mount Anak Krakatau," said Siti Samsiah (50), a fish trader at the Carita Market in Pandeglang Regency.
