PAN: Jokowi's Directions Are Right in the Middle of Blowing Identity Political Issues Ahead of Elections

JAKARTA - The National Mandate Party (PAN) welcomes President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) message so that political parties do not bring each other down. According to the Secretary General of PAN Eddy Soeparno, the essence of President Jokowi's directive is for parties to compete with each other in goodness or fastabiqul khairat.

"PAN supports President Jokowi's statement so that politicians do not bring down each other and maintain healthy competition. Above all political differences, commitment to Indonesian unity is paramount", said Eddy in his statement, Tuesday, November 8.

"The spirit of fastabiqul khairat, which is how we compete in serving, giving service, and at the same time voicing the aspirations of the people. If the spirit of political parties like this is the people who will benefit the most, of course", he continued.

Eddy assessed that President Jokowi's direction was very appropriate and important in the midst of many parties trying to revive identity politics ahead of the 2024 General Election.

"President Jokowi's directive is the right statement, especially when several parties are trying to blow the issue of identity politics ahead of this political year", said the West Java electoral district PAN legislator.

For PAN, he added, the most important thing is to compete in goodness. Not dropping each other but fighting each other ideas.

"Politics of ideas is the best way to prevent the emergence of identity politics", Eddy.

Previously, President Joko Widodo gave a message to all political parties that will compete in the 2024 General Election to compete fairly. This was conveyed by Jokowi while attending the Perindo Party's 8th Anniversary Celebration at JCH, Central Jakarta, Monday, November 7.

The event was attended by Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto, PAN Secretary General Eddy Soeparno, Golkar Secretary General Lodewijck F. Paulus, to PPP Chairman Mardiono.

"This has entered the political year and what we have to do is maintain the competition between the parties so that the rivalry is healthy. Don't bring each other down. If possible, the parties compliment each other, you know", said Jokowi.
