Russia Not Participating Euro 2024 Qualifiers, Impact Of Continuous Invasion Into Ukraine
JAKARTA - The European Union Football Association (UEFA) announced that Russia will not take part in the Euro 2024 qualifying draw. This was also confirmed by the Russian Football Federation.
This is still the aftermath of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As is known, the policy has prevented the Russian national team and clubs from participating in international competitions, including in Europe.
Russia has actually appealed against the ban issued by UEFA. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport or CAS rejected the appeal.
"All Russian teams are currently suspended following the decision of the UEFA Executive Committee on 28 February 2022 which was followed up by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on 15 July 2022," UEFA said in a statement.
"Therefore, Russia is not included in the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship qualifying draw," the statement continued.
Apart from not participating in EURO 2024, Russia has also been banned from participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Even though they have already managed to qualify for the play-off round of the European zone qualifiers.
As is known, Euro 2024 will take place in Germany. The qualifying draw will be held on 9 October in Frankfurt.
Apart from Russia, the German Interior Minister has also asked Belarus to be barred from participating for supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
