JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid emphasized the importance of child protection in the national game industry ecosystem, in the Indonesian Woman In Game (IWIG) BeautyPlayConnect forum.

As a concrete step, the government has also issued Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance for the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

This regulation requires every electronic system (PSE) organizer in Indonesia, including developers and game publishers, to implement strict age classification.

Meutya emphasized that the presence of this regulation is intended to create a safe and healthy digital space for all users who are not old enough.

"We are not banning games, but we are delaying access to content to users who are not old enough. This is not a matter of censorship, but a matter of shared responsibility in creating a safe and healthy digital space," he said in an official Komdigi broadcast on Sunday, July 6.

Where, this regulation requires games with a level of violence or high activity to only be accessed by users aged at least 16 years with parental assistance, and independently after the age of 18.

He also emphasized the importance of implementing a content rating system through the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS), as a reference for parents, players, and industry players in order to recognize content that is age-appropriate and stage of child development.

IGRS is not only a tool for parents, but also a protector for industry. By implementing age classification honestly, developers and publishers can avoid the risk of violating the law," explained Meutya.
