JAKARTA - The National Zakat Agency (Baznas) RI has strengthened national collaboration in building a professional zakat collection ecosystem through the implementation of the Baznas Fundraising Forum (BFF) which was held some time ago.
Through a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, the Head of the Indonesian National Agency for Mobilization and Collection of Rizaludin Kurniawan, said that in the management of zakat, infak, and alms (ZIS), the amils need to abandon the approach of collection that relies on mercy and switch to strategies based on science, ease, and transparency.
"Zakat must be made clear, attractive, and easy. This flow should not be reversed. We cannot just force or first mince it in the name of zakat, infak, and alms," he said.
He assessed that the practice of collecting which exploits hardship is not in line with the mission of zakat preaching. Instead, the zakat institution must build a professional approach so that the community is encouraged to pay zakat because they understand the benefits and feel happiness in sharing.
He emphasized that fundraising is a profession that has a scientific foundation, ethics, competence, and clear practice standards.
Therefore, the strategy for raising funds for ZIS must be formulated based on a measured approach, not just relying on momentary empathy.
"We must use science, not just guess or rely on mercy by selling 'tears' or the suffering of others," he said.
Rizaludin revealed that there are two main approaches to collecting zakat in Indonesia, namely the regulatory approach (by law) supported by government policies and the marketing approach (by marketing) through creative campaigns and services to muzaki.
"At Baznas RI, we try to combine these two things so that the zakat payers get transformative services, experiences, and spiritual changes within themselves," he continued.
As a philanthropic institution, Rizaludin emphasized the urgency of building public trust and strengthening the professionalism of amils as the main foundation in the management of zakat.
In addition, he continued, it is necessary to expand collaboration with the government, ulama, and various institutions, increase the number and capacity of professional amils, socialize the impact of zakat programs, to strengthen inter-institutional synergy in philanthropy.
Responding to this, the Founder of the Daarut Tauhid Peduli Foundation, KH Abdullah Gymnastiar or Aa Gym, explained the concept of zakat dakwah which is adaptive to the development of time.
According to him, the success of the zakat management institution in building public trust depends on four main aspects, namely clear, attractive, easily accessible services, and able to provide satisfaction to muzaki.
"We have to make the muzaki who give zakat understand that their zakat really reaches the right person. Something that is clear, interesting, easy to process, and satisfying will bring commitment, become a good habit, and can be contagious to others," said Aa Gym.
