JAKARTA Xiaomi has officially confirmed that its newest flagship series, Xiaomi 16, will be powered by Qualcomm's newest generation chipset, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. This announcement also dismissed speculation that had circulated about the potential split between Xiaomi and Qualcomm. On the other hand, the two actually strengthen their strategic cooperation through a new agreement that will take place in the next few years.
This information comes at the same time as confirmation from Qualcomm that the Snapdragon Summit 2025 will be held in September, reinforcing allegations that Xiaomi 16 will debut globally by the end of the month.
Through its official press release, Qualcomm stated that they and Xiaomi have signed a multi-year cooperation agreement for the use of the Snapdragon 8 Series chipset in a variety of upcoming Xiaomi flagship models. Under this agreement, Xiaomi 16 is confirmed to be one of the first devices to carry Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, a temporary name for next-generation SoC that promises higher performance and efficiency than its predecessors.
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun also emphasized that Qualcomm remains the main partner in the company's global expansion strategy. He highlighted the importance of synergy between Snapdragon's hardware performance and Xiaomi's internal technology development, as key to strengthening brand positions in the premium smartphone segment.

Interestingly, Xiaomi will also continue to use homemade chipsets, namely Xring, which will debut alongside the Xiaomi 15S Pro in China. This in-house chip is expected to continue to be used in selected flagship models such as Xiaomi 16S Pro and Xiaomi 16 Ultra.
The selective use of the Xring chip shows that Xiaomi does not completely replace Snapdragon, but rather makes Xring a complement to creating a more integrated device experience between software and hardware. Moreover, Xring's chip production capacity is currently still in an advanced stage, so Xiaomi still relies on Qualcomm for mass production of its flagship model.
With the Snapdragon double chipset strategy for flagship volume and Xring for the exclusive Xiaomi' model showing a new direction in developing its premium smartphone ecosystem. The Xiaomi 16 debut with Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 at the end of this year will certainly be in the spotlight, as well as a benchmark for the integration of high performance and technological innovation from two industrial giants: Xiaomi and Qualcomm.
