JAKARTA - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon said the first Islamic Company Building in Semarang will be repaired again this year. The damage is said to not be too severe, but still needs improvement.
Fadli conveyed this during an interview on the Kereta Nusantara Explorer on the way from Semarang to Jakarta, Thursday, July 30.
Initially, Fadli was asked about the Islamic Company Building in Semarang. He said the building had previously been repaired. However, there are still parts that need minor repairs.
"The Islamic Company building at that time has been repaired, now there are minor repairs," said Fadli.
According to Fadli, one of the concerns is the growth of trees in the building area. He called the building the first Islamic Syarikat Building in Semarang.
"Especially there are trees growing there, it was the first Islamic Company Building in Semarang," he said.
Fadli hopes that improvements can be made this year. He emphasized that the condition of the building was not severely damaged.
"Hopefully this year the revitalization can be improved, but the damage is not too severe," said Fadli.
The plan to repair the Islamic Company Building is part of the Ministry of Culture's agenda in handling historical assets and cultural heritage. Fadli previously said President Prabowo Subianto had an interest in history and cultural heritage.
According to Fadli, ministries and agencies are asked to revitalize their respective cultural assets. In the Ministry of Culture, these assets include museums, cultural heritage sites, temples, old mosques, churches, fortresses, and palaces.
Fadli also said that the government this year targets more than 100 cultural assets to enter the initial phase of handling. Some of them are Demak Mosque, Maimun Palace, Surakarta Palace, a number of other palaces, and the National Gallery.
The government is also accelerating the registration, verification, and data collection of national cultural heritage. Fadli said that for 79 years Indonesia has only recorded 228 national cultural heritages. This year, the target is to increase to 2,000.
