JAKARTA - PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) targets that the contractor of the Dukuh Atas pedestrian deck project will start joining in November after the tender process is completed. The infrastructure designed to connect four areas in Dukuh Atas is targeted to be completed by the end of 2028.
Advisor of the Program Management Office Division of the Jakarta MRT, Agus Trihan, said that the project is currently entering the contractor selection stage after the completion of the basic design.
"So now the basic design is complete. Now we are tendering contractors. Hopefully in November (2026) the contractor will be on board. The target is hopefully it will be ready by the end of 2028," said Agus at the Transport Hub, Jakarta, Thursday, July 30.
According to Agus, the construction of this circular pedestrian deck or crossing bridge is based on the condition of the Dukuh Atas area which is still fragmented into four areas due to the presence of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman and the West Canal Flood Canal.
This condition makes the movement of pedestrians, especially public transportation users, not yet comfortable even though the area is a meeting point for various modes of transportation such as the Jakarta MRT, Commuter Line KRL, Jabodebek LRT, TransJakarta, to the airport train.
"But for pedestrians, the area from quadrant 3 (connection to BNI City Complex) to quadrant 4 (Connection to Future LRT Jakarta, TJ Galunggung Stop & Landmark Complex) for example, if they cross they have to go down far, get on again. So it's not comfortable," he said.
Therefore, continued Agus, MRT Jakarta conducted a pre-feasibility study (pre-FS) with Japan, then continued with a feasibility study (FS). The results of the study showed that it was necessary to build pedestrian infrastructure to connect the four areas.
In addition to connecting the area, Agus said, this pedestrian deck was also designed to be integrated with various existing modes of transportation, as well as those that will be developed in the future, namely the Jakarta LRT.
"This deck is a catalyst. It encourages all public transportation in this area to develop its connections so that intermodal movement becomes more seamless," he said.
Agus explained that based on the study of MRT Jakarta consultants, the existence of the pedestrian deck is also projected to reduce the travel time of public transportation users and pedestrians when changing modes.
For example, continued Agus, the time savings on the journey is most felt by pedestrians who move from the Landmark area to Shangri-La because they no longer have to go around the sidewalk below.
"But the most significant thing is from the Landmark to Shangri-La. Now this is the most chaotic, because he has to go from the bottom up to the south (direction of TransJakarta Galunggung), then to here again (Graha BNI), then he can get here (Shangri-La). And that as far as I remember, I can save about 4 to 5 minutes," he said.
Furthermore, Agus said that the increase in comfort is expected to encourage people to switch from private vehicles to public transportation.
"With this infrastructure, it will make the journey more comfortable and more interesting for people, especially when it's hot or rainy. Otherwise, people might still choose to bring a car," he said.
