JAKARTA - Elon Musk said that if Twitter Inc. can provide a method of sampling 100 accounts and how to confirm that the accounts are real, then the $44 billion acquisition deal to buy social media must proceed on its original terms.

"However, if it turns out that their SEC filing is materially wrong, then it shouldn't be," Elon Musk tweeted on Saturday morning, August 6.

In response to a Twitter user asking if the US SEC was investigating "dub claims" by the company, Musk tweeted "Good question, why not?"

Twitter itself declined to comment on the tweet when contacted by Reuters.

Twitter last Thursday rejected Musk's claim that he was duped into signing a deal to buy the social media company, saying it was "absurd and contrary to the facts".

"According to Musk, he - the billionaire founder of several companies, advised by Wall Street bankers and lawyers - was tricked by Twitter into signing a $44 billion merger agreement. The story is as absurd and as contradictory as it sounds," an archive released by Twitter on Thursday said.

Musk filed a lawsuit back against Twitter on July 29, escalating his legal battle against the social media company over its efforts to abandon its $44 billion purchase of Twitter.
