JAKARTA - Caitlin Halderman is back on the big screen in Indonesian cinema by playing in one of the horror films produced by Rapi Films, Sky Media, Legacy Pictures and Rhaya Flicks entitled Menjelang Ajal.

Caitlin Halderman competes with other well-known Indonesian actors such as Shareefa Daanish, Daffa Wardhana, Shakeel Fauzi and Michael Olindo in this film.

In an exclusive interview with VOI, Caitlin Halderman tried to tell more about her role in this third horror film. She said that in this film she plays the second child of a family of rice shop entrepreneurs named Ratna, where the family is not harmonious because of differences in vision and mission between her older brother, Dani (Daffa Wardhana) and her mother, Sekar (Shareefa Daanish).

This ultimately made Caitlin have to replace her older sister to become the first child to focus on taking care of her younger sibling, Dodi (Shakeel Fauzi), who still needed attention. Unfortunately, because of her duties as an older sister, Ratna cannot be like her friends her age who easily play and hang out.

"In the end, I became the first child, as you call it, because I had a big responsibility, because Mrs. Sekar was busy at the rice stall and brother Dani was no longer there, so I had to take care of the youngest brother, Dodi. Dodi was still being taken care of. He's still really a spoiled kid to Ratna, and he can't spoil Mrs. Sekar because Mrs. Sekar is really busy taking care of her rice stall," said Caitlin Halderman at the VOI office, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 18.

"So like it or not, who is he looking for, sister Ratna, a 16 year old kid who should still be able to have fun with her friends after school, they want to eat, want coffee, want to do homework together, but she can't. She had to go home because her younger sibling waiting at home for her to take care of. Her responsibility is big," she explained.

Returning to playing in a horror film, Caitlin admitted that in this film her acting skills were even more honed. Not without reason, this 23 year old woman revealed that during the process before filming, she was forced to go beyond her limits as an actress.

"Yes for sure. I always learn that there is always room for improvement. And here, I also read that the acting coach is quite good at encouraging us to look out for our limits," she said.

"Maybe every time we read, we always practice scenes where the emotions can be increased again in all kinds of ways. There's always a room for improvement, be it emotion wise, acting wise, basically there are a lot of them that will definitely always increase," added Caitlin.

Furthermore, the reason why this woman who graduated from the University of California felt that she could express more freedom when playing in horror films compared to the film genres she had played in. Caitlin feels this in terms of appearance and beauty in acting.

"Everything is more exciting, but horror is less scary, that's all, because it's a film that's like a drama, I'm not into maintaining my image too much, only for hairstyle, for example, there's a little bit of change, something like that, that's for hairstyle, but if it's horror, it's like I'm really free to do any hairstyle. What about it, as long as you don't cover your face, all kinds of things will be more flexible when you're in horror movie. That's about beauty and appearance, okay," she explained.

Motivation to Get Out from Comfort Zone

Caitlin Halderman first made her acting debut in 2016 by playing the main character in the film Ada Cinta di SMA. After 9 years of a career in the world of acting, Caitlin still does not think that she could be at the point of success she is today, where this career initially started by accident.

"I'm really comfortable in this world, I never thought I would like it because I've never had any acting experience before, maybe when I was in elementary school or something like that. Yes, I like theater for all kinds of things, but now I'm trying acting, right? "I accidentally got into it, so I was just having fun casting at that time and when I was chosen to be the main character, I immediately thought, 'Oh, it turns out acting is really fun,'" said Caitlin Halderman.

Even though she has appeared in various series and films several times, Caitlin's character is still attached to her role as Starla in the film Surat Cinta untuk Starla when she starred alongside Jefri Nichol. According to Caitlin, this has been something extraordinary for her during her acting career.

"Oh yes, it still makes an impression on me to this day, I think Starla, everyone would say Starla, because I was really young, right when Starla was, maybe I was 16 years old, 17 years old, and that was 8 years ago and to this day people still think I'm Starla, I'm really like her, and I think it's become my trademark, 'Oh yeah, I'm Starla'," added Caitlin.

It turns out that this unknowingly continues to overshadow the acting career of this woman who has a hobby of singing. She said that whatever role she played in a film or series project, her fans would always remember her as Starla.

"Isn't it disturbing that every time I play a project, people definitely don't have expectations, but they still remember me as Starla, but after watching it, they also remember that, what's embedded in their brains is Starla, like that. For example, like in Married With Senior movie, we already grown up and people can't move on with Mikha and Angkasa, so Starla is still stuck in their minds," she explained.

Not wanting to worry about this, Caitlin tries to change the mindset of her fans into a motivation for herself to always give the best to her fans and try to get out of her comfort zone in every film or series project she takes on.

"No, people are free to remember who I am, but I will always try to get out of that zone," said Caitlin.

"Every project has its own challenges, yes, and I always try to overcome those challenges, but maybe it's more for projects that I've never taken on, for example I want to play a character that is very different from me. For example, a villain or psychopath like something. like Joker, Hailey, like I want to be able to overcome this challenge that I have never overcome, because so far everything is all good," said Caitlin, closing the interview with VOI.
