JAKARTA – The YouTube video platform is reportedly testing Premium Lite Subscription. This subscription feature is claimed to be cheaper than YouTube Premium. However Premium Lite is still in the testing phase for users in Europe.

This YouTube Premium Lite offers ad-free viewing of videos. However, the developer does not provide an offline download feature. Premium Lite also cannot be played in picture-in-picture so users cannot multitask such as typing while watching videos.

“In the Nordics and Benelux (except Iceland), we are piloting a new offer to give users even more choice: Premium Lite costs €6.99/month (or local equivalent per month) and includes ad-free videos on YouTube," reads quoted from TheVerge.

In trials for European users, namely in Belgium, Finland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Luxembourg. YouTube charges a Premium Lite subscription fee of 6.99 euros (approximately Rp. 119,182) per month in the trial phase.

It is also not known whether the price will change when Premium Lite Subscription is released globally. For comparison, currently the cost of a YouTube Premium subscription is US$9.99 (around Rp. 143,233).

Until now, YouTube has not announced in detail the launch time of the Premium Lite subscription for global users. However, the Premium Lite subscription price is only 40 percent different from the Premium version.
