It's Time For New Chromebook Waves: Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Combination

JAKARTA - In recent months, Windows laptops have seen a major increase thanks to chip development from Intel and AMD. However, Qualcomm has caught the eye with the Snapdragon X Elite series offering high-power performance and efficiency, approaching the advantages of Apple Silicon's chips.

So far, we have always faced compromises between high performance and battery life on laptops. High-power laptops often require large power, while devices with long-lasting batteries tend to be less powered. Similar problems also occur in Chromebooks, which to date have not offered a perfect combination of performance and energy efficiency.

With Qualcomm's new Snapdragon X Elite chip emerging, especially in the IFA 2024 event, the hope of seeing Chromebooks with these chips is getting stronger. However, one of the main reasons why we haven't seen Chromebooks using Snapdragon X Elite is probably due to price range.

While Windows laptops with Snapdragon can be priced from $700, this is a high price for Chromebooks, which are generally in the range of 300 to 500 US dollars.

Even so, the Snapdragon chip offers great potential for Chromebooks, as seen in the Windows Surface Pro 11 device. With the Snapdragon X Elite chip, users get a perfect pairing between battery life and the ability to run many applications at once. This is the reason why there is high hope of seeing Chromebooks with Snapdragon X Elite in the future, possibly as successors to Pixelbooks.

Google and Intel still have strong relationships, as seen in IFA 2024, where they exhibit new Intel Core Ultra chips designed for Chromebook Plus. However, Qualcomm with Snapdragon X Elite could be a commensurate competitor, offering other attractive options for users who want Chromebooks with better performance and battery life.

The collaboration between Qualcomm and ChromeOS, especially with the Snapdragon X Elite, seems to be an ideal couple that could pave the way for a stronger and more efficient Chromebook future.
