JAKARTA - Microsoft announced that it will launch a Recall feature for beta testers using PC Copilot+ in October, bringing an update to it.

"With a commitment to provide a trusted and secure Recall (preview) experience on PC Copilot+ for customers, we convey the latest information that Recall will be available for Windows Insider starting October," the company wrote in its update Wednesday, August 21.

Microsoft's Windows Recall feature has a function to store the chronology of activity snapshots on PC including looking back at various things such as products, emails, documents, or chats displayed on the screen. But unfortunately, many users are worried about the security of their personal data.

Launching Engadget, during the 2024 Built event, security expert Kevin Beaumont confirmed that Recalls do not hide sensitive information such as passwords or other banking details.

But, in response to those concerns, Microsoft has finally rolled out a security update to the Recall feature, where the feature becomes opt-in instead of being enabled by default while setting up a Crypto+ PC.

In addition, Microsoft also said the feature would require Windows Hello, face scans or fingerprints and implement "timely" decryption (just opened via Hello).

That is, if a hacker gains access to your computer, your screenshot timeline will remain encrypted unless you lend your face or finger to open it.

Microsoft said it would publish a new blog post when the feature was available in October via the Windows 11 Insider Program.

"Security remains our top priority and when a recall is available to Windows Insider in October, we will publish a blog with more detailed information," he concluded.
