JAKARTA - Apple officially announced the iPhone 16e as the successor to the iPhone SE line, confirming previously circulating rumors. This device comes with an iPhone 14-like design, an OLED display, as well as an action button. However, one question that has been asked a lot is: What does the word 'e' mean in its name?

In an online press conference, an Apple representative got a question about the meaning of the letter 'e' in the iPhone 16e. The answer given was quite surprising: the letter has no special meaning.

"In today's online press conference, when asked if 'e' had any meaning, Apple representatives said no, the letter had no meaning, but the iPhone 16e was designed for everyone," said tech journalist John Laughs.

Although Apple calls this device for everyone, there is no indication that 'e' stands for 'veryone'. As one of the iPhone models at a more affordable price, the iPhone 16e is likely to target segments of users who want devices with high performance but still economical.

Apple has previously used additional letters in its product naming without giving a clear meaning. For example, the letter 'S' in the iPhone 3GS is claimed to mean 'Speed', but its meaning is blurred in the iPhone 4S to 6S model.

Likewise with the iPhone 5C, which is assumed to mean 'Colorful' because it comes in a variety of bright colors. Meanwhile, the letter 'SE' in the iPhone SE was first believed to refer to 'Special Edition', although Apple never officially confirmed it.

Apple has also used the letters 'R' and 'X' in the naming of the iPhone XR and XS, before finally turning to clearer name schemes such as mini, Plus, Pro, and Pro Max.

Majin Bu's technology leaker had previously predicted that this latest model would be called the iPhone 16e, not the iPhone SE4 as many parties thought. This information turned out to be true, including the specifications he leaked.

"Based on a report from my source, the new iPhone that Apple will release in 2025 will not be called the iPhone SE4, but the iPhone 16e. This device will have an iPhone 14-like design, using an OLED screen, and is equipped with an action button. The available colors are black and white," wrote Majin Bu in early January.

In addition, several leaks before the official announcement also briefly showed product packaging with the name "iPhone 16e" which further strengthened speculation.

With the launch of the iPhone 16e, Apple seems to maintain its strategy of presenting an iPhone model at a more affordable price, as was done in the previous SE series. Even so, the use of a new name with the letter 'e' without a clear meaning still raises question marks among Apple fans.

Is this just a new marketing strategy or is there an excuse that Apple hasn't revealed yet? What is clear, the iPhone 16e is ready to be an attractive choice for users who want an iPhone experience at a more affordable price.
