Apple Prepares New Design For Mac Mini This Year

JAKARTA - Apple is preparing its first major design for a Mac mini since 2010, according to a recent report from Bloomberg. The new mini- Mac is slated for release later this year and will be "much smaller than its predecessor" with a new shape similar to Apple TV.

This new mini Mac will be available in two configurations, namely with the M4 chip and the M4 Pro chip. Apple is rumored to have tested the model with a at least three USB-C ports on the back along with the HDMI power cable and port. The M4 Pro version of the Mac mini will also be configured with more RAM and stronger graphics.

The report explains that although the overall footprint of the new Mac mini will be smaller, this device may be slightly higher than the current model, which has a height of 1.4 inches.

People involved in the development of the new Mac mini say that this device is basically an iPad Pro in the form of a small box approach that takes advantage of the company's lower power needs of silicon.

The current mini- Mac starts at 599 US dollars (Rp9.5 million), and although the new model may be cheaper to produce, it's unclear whether the company will continue this savings to consumers.

Mini Macs are currently available in M2 and M2 Pro configurations and were last updated in early 2023.

Today's report also confirms that Apple is expected to update its entire Mac line with the M4 chip over the next year. The switch will start later this year with Mac mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro. By 2025, Mac Pro, Mac Studio, and MacBook Air are expected to switch to the M4 chip.
