JAKARTA - TikTok revealed its new plan to start automatically labeling or watermarking AI-generated content (AIGC) when uploaded to its platform, even using third-party tools.
Although TikTok has required its creators to disclose that their content is made from AI, it seems that this regulation has not been effective, especially when creators use other companies' AI tools.
“AI provides incredible creative opportunities, but can confuse or mislead viewers if they don't know that the content is generated by AI,” the company wrote in its latest announcement.
To make this effort a reality, TikTok partnered with the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), and became the first video-sharing platform to implement their Content Credentials technology.
This is not the first time TikTok has implemented watermark technology for AI-generated content, but other large technology companies including Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Adobe are also developing this technology.

It is claimed that C2PA's Content Credentials will attach metadata to content, so that TikTok can use it to instantly recognize and label AIGC.
This capability is starting to roll out today on images and video, and will soon be coming to audio-only content.
In the coming months, TikTok will also start attaching Content Credentials to TikTok content, which will remain with the content when downloaded.
“This means anyone will be able to use the C2PA Verification tool to help identify AIGCs created on TikTok and even find out when, where, and how the content was created or edited,” the company concluded.
