Elon Musk Claims Platform X Is Lower In Antisemitism Content

JAKARTA - The owner of social media platform X, Elon Musk, claims that the platform has fewer antisemitism content than other applications. This, according to an audit he has initiated. Musk made this statement on Monday, January 22 at a conference on antisemitism countermeasures.

Musk, who previously visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau site of a former Nazi concentration camp in Germany, attended a conference in the southern Polish city of Krakow. The conference discussed increased antisemitis since the Israeli-Hamas conflict began in October.

Platform X has been in the spotlight in recent months and has seen a decline in major advertisers after Musk agreed with a user X who spread antisemit conspiracy theories. However, Musk said last Monday that the general principle of the social media platform is freedom of speech, and misinformation must be corrected.

"Outer audits we've done... show that the least number of antisemitism is on X, when compared to all other social apps," Musk said during an interview on stage by US conservative journalist Ben Shapiro.

Musk did not mention who audited or shared details of the report. He also did not answer questions from other journalists.

The event in Krakow, hosted by the European Jewish Association (EJA), has focused on "an alarming spike in antisemitism in Europe" since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in October.

When asked about the balance between free speech and hate speech response, Musk stated that his platform prefers freedom of speech.

"In the end, in my opinion, freedom of speech wins, that if someone says something wrong, especially on our platform, you can immediately give a corrective response," he said. "So if someone tries to spread lies, like Holocaust denial, they can be corrected immediately. And you can't get rid of that label."
