JAKARTA - The world's richest leader of Tesla and CEO, Elon Musk, announced Monday via social media platform X (previously known as Twitter) that he would feel uncomfortable making his automotive company a leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics without having at least 25% of voice control over the company, almost double what it currently shares.
While Musk has long promoted Tesla's partially automated "Full Self-Driving" software and prototype human robots, most of the company's revenue comes from its automotive business. Some analysts have also identified these technologies, including Tesla's supercomputer Dojo to train AI models, as a driver of the company's assessment.
Tesla shares fell about 2% in pre-opening trading on Tuesday following Musk's comments.
Musk, who currently owns about 13% of Tesla's shares after selling billions of dollars in shares in 2022 in part to finance a $44 billion purchase of Twitter, stated in a separate post on X that he would agree with the double-class stock structure to achieve its goal of gaining 25% of voice control. However, he said the structure was deemed unlikely after Tesla's initial share offering.

He expressed his surprise, "Why is the crazy double-class stock structure like Meta, which gives control to more than 20 next generation of Zuckerberg, considered legal before the IPO, but even a reasonable double-class structure is not allowed after the IPO," referring to Facebook's parent founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment.
Musk is currently facing a lawsuit over his compensation package. Tesla's shareholder, Richard Tornetta, sued Musk and the board in 2018 and hopes to prove that the company's founders are using his dominance over Tesla's board to obtain excessive compensation packages without having to work full time at the electric vehicle manufacturer.
Musk stated on X that there was no "dispute" with the board regarding his new compensation package, and said the undecided ruling was still hampering the talks.
