Palo Alto Network Reminds Cyber Threats From Clickbait Content Ahead Of The Election

JAKARTA - The phenomenon of sites with headlines containing clickbait, or containing sensational language content and captivating readers, is currently very common.

Usually, the use of clickbait titles like this is done to attract visitors, which is ultimately expected to increase the number of click sites alone.

However, behind the clickbait title, the Palo Alto Networks sees various potential cyber threats, such as ransomware, malware, or other viruses.

Recently, Unit 42 of the Palo Alto Networks published a blog on potential hazards and threats in visiting clickbait sites. The report revealed a surge in compromised servers, centered on clickbait content and promotional material within two months since August 2023.

The report also noted that there were at least 10,300 WordPress sites infiltrated during that period. This finding shows the fact that threat actors are very aggressive in exploiting the vulnerabilities possessed by clickbait sites.

Adi Rusli, Country Manager, Indonesia, Palo Alto Networks, revealed how clickbait sites, with sensational headlines, can pose significant cybersecurity risks for, especially during the current General Election (Pemilu).

"During the election period in Indonesia, the perpetrators of the threat will most likely take advantage of this moment to launch their attacks through the sites that have been infiltrated," Adi said in his statement.
