JAKARTA - Nvidia CEO, Jensen Huang, stated on Monday 4 December that his company would do its best to supply artificial intelligence (AI) processors to Japan considering the very high market demand.

Japan is working to rebuild its previously world-leading semiconductor infrastructure and pursue developments in AI technology. Graphics processing units (GPUs) manufactured by Nvidia are US-based and dominate the market for AI.

"Demand is very high, but I promised the prime minister that we will do our best to give priority to Japan's need for GPUs," Huang told reporters at the official residence of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo.

Huang's visit comes less than two weeks after Japan passed an extra budget that included around 2 trillion yen (Rp. 211 trillion) allocated for investment in chips.

Some of the funds are expected to be used to support Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC and chip foundry venture Rapidus, which aims to produce advanced chips on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido.

"The semiconductor industry which is currently growing and being fostered by Japan will be able to produce GPUs," said Huang.

"Countries like Japan are realizing that you need to own your own data, build your own AI factories and produce your own artificial intelligence," he added.
