Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo Resigns From Platform X, For Destroying Democracy

Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo announced on Monday 27 November that she would leave platform X, formerly known as Twitter. She even called it a "global giantitak mutual cooperation" that "destroyed our democracy" by spreading harassment and misinformation.

After buying Twitter in 2022, Elon Musk laid off thousands of employees, including many who were moderators of content on the platform. After changing its name to X, the platform lost several major advertisers and was criticized by various parties, including the White House, for not doing enough to tackle antisemitism.

"This link and its owners intentionally exacerbate tensions and conflicts," Hidalgo said in a lengthy post in English and French, referring to manipulation, disinformation, antisemitism, and attacks on scientists, climate experts, women, and liberals.

Hidalgo's campaign to turn Paris into the capital of bicycles has received ridicule and praise on social media for years, in which some users criticized seemingly endless work and visually unattractive construction sites with the hashtag #SaccgeParis (Damaging Paris).

"This media has become a giantitak global mutual cooperation, and should we continue to submerge it?" asked the Socialist Party politician, who failed in his bid to run for president of France and only got 1.7% of the vote in 2022. "I refuse to support this malicious scheme," he said.

Recently, he was the target of criticism for a trip to the island of France,village, which he said was to see the 2024 Olympic surfing site, but according to his opponents, the trip was not in accordance with his duties and during that time he visited his daughter who lived there.

Users X and opposition politicians used the hashtag #TahitiGate to criticize him for the trip, which was partly financed by the tax.
