Virtual Reality Experts Predict Sex On Metaverse Will Become 'Normal' In 10 Years

JAKARTA - The idea of having sex in the metaverse may make most people feel uncomfortable. But a virtual reality expert (VR) believes that people will "first comfort," as is the case with today's dating apps.

Sam Hall, director of Mixed Reality Rooms, predicts that in the next 10 years, people from different levels of society will use VR headsets to avoid businesses or risks associated with direct sex.

He also suggested that VR headsets would be more accessible in the coming decade, and could replace porn applications and websites such as those by a number of magazines.

"When this happens, we will reach a point where VR sex toys and VR are'multi-sensory' with the smell going to be 'new normal,'" Hall said, quoted by VOI from DailyMail.

"Deep experience is something exciting, simulating visuals very well, which, when combined with haptic technology such as sex toys that respond to input and produce physical effects, will provide quite an experience that is close to the real thing," Hall said.

Hall also proposed that with the increase in the use of VR headsets, accessories such as connected sex toys will become common.

"I hope there will be more links between Bluetooth sex toys that use haptic technology and VR headsets," he said.

However, Hall warns that this technology brings "big ethical concerns" related to consent, among others such as the threat of using people's images or virtual versions of them without consent.

Although the concept of'smelling' in cyberspace sounds like science fiction, researchers in Sweden developed a device in 2022 that sends a scent to the nose while playing video games in virtual reality. It includes a liquid fragrance directed at the nose at various times during playing with a headset.

"Metaverse will take people out of their homes in terms of sex, allowing them to meet at different simulated locations," Hall said. "Metaverse has no boundaries and will allow people to realize all their sexual fantasies."

Studies show that a small number of men (10-20 percent) get most women (80-90 percent), and Hal argues that the metaverse will be 'balanced' and an alternative for those who have difficulty finding sexual partners.

"A person can be whoever they want in cyberspace and in theory, there will be no limit to the experience they can enjoy," Hall said.

How fast will this happen? According to Hall, people have found romance in the metaverse, and its development will begin once technology such as VR, metaverse space, and sex toys intersect.
