JAKARTA - The United States Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) is working with a Texas-based technology company called Apptronik.

NASA and Apptronics collaborate under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to develop Apollo, a humanoid robot designed to help humans in several areas such as logistics, manufacturing, and health care at home.

Quoted fromSpace,NASA seems interested in including Apollo in exploration projects on the moon and on Mars. Later, Apollo will be adapted as an assistant to astronauts while working in orbit.

"By implementing NASA's expertise in mobile robots that are safe for humans for commercial projects, together we can encourage innovation in this important field," said Head of the Robotics Team, Shaun Azimi, at NASA's Johnson Space Center.

Therefore, NASA is determined to develop the Apollo robot as a human assistant on earth and as a space explorer. In order to realize these ideals, NASA has also helped develop Apollo in several areas such as mobility and software design for interactions between humans and robots.

On the official Apptronic website, Apollo, which weighs 73 kilograms, is said to be capable of walking about four hours with a load lifting capacity of up to 25 kilograms. With specifications owned by Apollo so far, this robot is only capable of working on earth.

If later this project is as expected, Apollo may be programmed as a remote-control like an avatar on another planet. Simply put, humans can control Apollo from Earth.
