Meta Expands Parental Control Features On Instagram To Limit Usage Time

JAKARTA - Meta shared its update for Instagram. The update is to expand the parental control features and support teenage time on Instagram.

On instagram, now not only teens can send invitations to start supervision, but parents can now send invites too.

As a parent, you can choose a time of day or week to limit your child's use. Additionally, you can see more information when their teen reports an account or post, including who was reported, and the type of report.

Now, this surveillance feature update is available on US Instagram. Starting this month, the tool will begin rolling out to other countries including the UK, Japan, Australia, Ireland, Canada, France and Germany, with plans to roll out globally before the end of the year.

The next update is that teens on instagram will see a new push, they will receive a notification allowing them to switch to another topic if they keep viewing the same content on Explore.

Meta says the push is designed to allow teens to discover something new and exclude certain topics that might relate to appearance comparisons.

"We designed this new feature because research shows that encouragement can be effective in helping people, especially teenagers, pay more attention to how they use social media today," said Meta, Tuesday, June 14.

Meta's own research shows that they also managed, over a one-week testing period, one in five teens who saw our new push switch to a different topic.

Furthermore, Meta launched the Take a Break Future feature to remind people to take time off on Instagram. "Soon, we'll be rolling out a new reminder for teens to turn on Rest when they've been scrolling in Scrolls for a certain amount of time," explains Meta.
