JAKARTA - Instagram is reportedly testing a new Template for Reels feature, which will allow users to copy video formats from other Reels videos. Currently, the feature is only available to a small group of content creators and is in beta testing status.
Templates have become very popular features like TikTok's, where users can insert their own photos into preset formats.
"We're always looking for new ways to make Reels easier to build. We're testing your ability to create reels using existing templates from other reels," said a Meta spokesperson.

Developer Alessandro Paluzzi saw an iteration of this feature in a reengineered version of the app's code in January. An influencer named Josephine Hill, was caught trying out this feature explained in a tweet last March.
According to TechCrunch, Saturday, April 23, Hill said Templates gives users the option to select "Use as template" on any Reels video to replace the video clip with their own.
While the current version of Templates on Reels provides users with a number of preset options, this new feature appears to provide the option to use any Reels video as a template.
Instagram REELS announced a new feature! “Use as template” allows user to replace the clips with your own and it will match the time stamps of the template reel. Let me know what you think of this feature. Does this make you want to create more reels? pic.twitter.com/rLMJAX89jG

Instagram has rolled out many features on Reels like TikTok, in the past in a bid to keep up with the ruling Gen Z app of choice.
However, when Instagram and other companies including Facebook, YouTube, and Snapchat tried to compete with TikTok using their own versions of the short video app, it was difficult to dethrone TikTok's popularity.
Because content creators often choose to upload TikTok videos to Reels, instead of creating content on Instagram, but maybe the new feature comes as a way to change that or at least to keep up with the competition.
