Previously, De Gea had been offered an extension contract by Manchester United, but he decided to end his 12-year period with the Red Devils.

During his career at United, De Gea appeared 545 times in all competitions, recording 190 clean sheets, with 148 of them occurring in the Premier League. The 33-year-old goalkeeper also won eight major titles under eight different managers at Old Trafford and won the Golden Glove twice.

De Gea's last competitive appearance came in a 2-1 United defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup final in 2023.

Fiorentina finished Serie A last season in eighth place, and coach Raffaele Palladino is determined to improve his team's defense which only recorded seven clean sheets of 38 league games.
