Peloton remained compact throughout the day despite some light rain and everyone remained calm after a break on Monday, July 8. The commotion occurred in the last five kilometers as the sprinter team searched for the best position and Alpecin-Deceuninck by doing their best.
Van der Poel hit the pedal at a distance of 300 meters and helped Philipsen to finish it comfortably for his seventh win in his Tour career.
This is a big release for the 26-year-old racer, whose best result is the second place since the start in Florence.

"We came to Tour de France with a strong leadout team and it paid off today. The sign has been checked, now we can continue the Tour with more confidence," said Philipsen.

Last week it wasn't our week and we intend to start this week with a win," added Philipsen, who praised Van der Poel for his hard work at the end of the race.

The only bad news for Philipsen is that he doesn't get many points because Girmay, his rival remains strong in controlling point classification. Girmay meanwhile has 267 points compared to Philipsen who has 195 points on the tour so far.
