Salah Broke a New Record in the Premier League When Liverpool Beat West Ham 3-1

JAKARTA - On Sunday 24 September afternoon in the Premier League competition, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah once again set a record when his team beat West Ham United 3-1.

Jurgen Klopp's men extended their winning streak in all competitions to six matches with victory over West Ham. Salah, who comes from Egypt, opened the scoring again for the hosts.

Salah's goal came in the first 20 minutes of the match when Luis Diaz sent a pass into the box. Then the 31-year-old player controlled the ball and shot towards the goal.

However, Salah's progress was halted by West Ham's Nayef Aguerd, who brought down the Liverpool man. This gave Liverpool the opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot early in the match.

Calmly, Salah managed to execute the penalty, sending West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola in the wrong direction and putting Liverpool ahead after 16 minutes had passed.

With this achievement, the former Chelsea player became the first player in Premier League history to score or assist a goal twice in 12 consecutive matches.

Salah first achieved this incredible feat between August and December 2021, when Liverpool ended the 2021-22 season as runners-up. He is only one point behind the champion team, Manchester City.

This time, the Egyptian player recorded 12 consecutive goal contributions in different matches, with his first contribution in this series being a penalty in the 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur on April 30.

Liverpool are unbeaten in those 12 matches, with nine wins and three draws. Currently, the Reds have gone six matches without defeat at the start of the 2023-24 season.

Salah has also set a number of records in the Premier League, including surpassing Didier Drogba's record of 104 goals to become the African player with the most goals of all time in the English league.

After Salah's goal from the penalty spot against West Ham, Jarrod Bowen equalized for the visitors towards the end of the first half, but goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota ensured a three-point win for Klopp's men.

Since a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea earlier in the season, Liverpool have enjoyed a run of six consecutive wins, including a 3-1 victory over LASK in their Europa League opener on Thursday.

Currently, Liverpool is in second place in the Premier League standings after collecting 16 points from the first six matches, only two points behind leaders, Manchester City, who still maintain a 100% winning record.

Salah will look to extend his streak of consecutive goals to 13 games when Liverpool visit North London to face Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham Hotspur on next Saturday.
