JAKARTA - The U-23 Indonesian national team defeated Thailand in the race for the 2023 AFF U-23 Cup final ticket, Thursday, August 24. The Garuda Muda squad won 3-1 over the hosts at the Rayong Provincial Stadium.

This victory clearly reverses the predictions of many people. Indonesia was actually not seeded in this match because of its inconclusive performance in the group stage.

However, all these assessments were successfully broken by Shin Tae-yong's foster children. This result also made Indonesian fans smile happily, including the Chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir.

He was also grateful for this historic victory. "Alhamdulillah. The players performed well, the people prayed, and Allah gave way," said Erick, on the official PSSI website.

The man who is also the Minister of SOEs then gave appreciation to the players and all officials. According to him, the team has prepared the match very well.

"Today the players are back all out with good technical and mental quality. It is proven that Thailand, which we have been difficult to control, has beaten twice in a row," said Erick.

However, Erick asked all parties not to be complacent. The reason is, there is still one tough match that the U-23 Indonesian national team still has to go through to be able to win the title.

"There are still 90 minutes plus an extension if we draw. So we will continue to fight until the end," said Erick.

In the final, Vietnam has been waiting for the national team to beat Malaysia in the semifinals. The 2023 AFF U-23 Cup final match between Indonesia and Vietnam will take place on Saturday, August 26.
