JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, guarantees a better finish when he meets Vietnam in the semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup.

The Garuda team received a lot of criticism during the group phase for their poor finishing. This problem made Shin Tae-yong angry with his players after the last match against the Philippines.

"Even though we qualified, I reprimanded and got angry with the players in the locker room", said the coach in a press conference ahead of the match, Thursday, January 5, 2023.

During the group stage, Indonesia recorded at least seven golden opportunities. Starting from the match against Cambodia in the first match at Gelora Bung Karno.

In this match, Egy Maulana Vikri and Witan Sulaeman should be able to increase their score. Unfortunately, both of them couldn't maximize their chances in a situation that was 100 percent considered to be a goal.

The next problem was made by Hansamu Yama in the match against Brunei. Even though he only had to face an empty goal, the ball flew over the bar.

Witan wasted another chance in the match against Thailand. Then Dendy Sulistyawan, Fachrudin Aryanto, and Ricky Kambuaya also wasted an opportunity in the match against the Philippines.

"Even so, the finishing has been good. So tomorrow's match will definitely be even better. I have prepared so that there will be no more words that we are unlucky or not good at finishing", he added.

Indonesia and Vietnam will play the first leg match at the Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) on Friday, January 6 tomorrow. Both teams then hoped again three days later at The Golden Stars headquarters.

This will be the 11th meeting between the two teams in this biennial event. In the previous ten meetings, Indonesia won three times, Vietnam won one time, and the other six matches ended in a draw.
