Out Until Final Season, Alexander Zverev Announces Quit Davis Cup Team

JAKARTA - The German tennis player, Alexander Zverev, is known to be out until the end of the season due to injury. It also made him decide to leave his country team that will perform in Hamburg for the Davis Cup group stage.

Zverev withdrew due to injury. He even admitted that he felt uncomfortable walking.

"I think I pushed myself too hard and now I'm in excruciating pain," Zverev said.

"I have to be realistic, otherwise it could be dangerous for the future," continued Zverev.

The 25-year-old tennis player is known to have not had the chance to take to the field again since June 2022. At that time he injured ankle ligaments in the French Open against Rafael Nadal.

At that time Zverev left the field in a wheelchair. He has also undergone surgery to repair three torn ligaments in his right ankle.

Zverev has been diagnosed with fluid buildup in his ankle, which puts him at risk of breaking a bone.

This situation had kept him out for three months. This situation made his ranking also drop from second to fifth position in the latest ATP rankings released on Monday after the US Open.

"We're talking about (I'm out) in the next few weeks and most likely months," Zverev said exasperatedly.

Davis Cup will be held this week. Germany will start the preliminary Group B against France, followed by Belgium and Australia. Later the top two teams will advance to the knockout round in November 2022.
