2022 BWF World Championships: Anthony Ginting To Quarter-Final, Against Viktor Axelsen

JAKARTA — Men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting has advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2022 BWF World Championships in Japan.

He qualified after winning the rubber game 21-11, 13-21, 21-18 over Shi Yuqi at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Thursday, August 25 afternoon WIB.

Anthony performed brilliantly in the first game. He only played tight on the first two points and managed to lead by seven points at the interval.

Indonesia's best men's singles continued to dominate after that. He scored five straight points after leading 16-11 to win the game.

After losing the first point, Anthony turned 3-1 ahead early in the second game. However, Shi Yuqi restored the situation after identifying the score and leading 11-7 at half-time.

Anthony couldn't do much after being so far behind. He could only add six points after that so the match continued into the third game.

In the final game, Anthony again trailed 2-4 after taking turns scoring the first four points. However, he managed to escape the pressure and managed to lead 11-7 at the interval.

Two straight numbers were printed by Anthony after that. However, Shi Yuqi managed to hit back by hitting eight straight points to take a 15-13 lead.

Anthony even had three points behind 15-18. However, six consecutive points after that managed to make it his first win over Shi Yuqi.

On paper, Anthony has a bad meeting record with this Chinese representative. He is recorded to have never won over Shi Yuqi in their previous six meetings.

Anthony will next face the first seed, Viktor Axelsen. Anthony has a poor 4-9 win-loss record with the Danes, including the latest seven straight defeats.

Besides Anthony, Indonesia also has Jonathan Christie in the last eight. Jonathan will win the semifinal ticket against Chinese Taipei representative Chou Tien Chen.
