JAKARTA — Men's singles badminton player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo was invited by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to take part in the Badminton World Championships on August 22-28 2022 in Tokyo, Japan.
The invitation from the international badminton parent was sent by e-mail and received by the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) on Tuesday, August 9.
"We just received an e-mail from BWF that Chico was invited to take part in the 2022 World Championship", said Head of Public Relations and Media of PP PBSI Broto Happy in a statement.
The invitation to Chico automatically made the Indonesian squad able to send four athletes in a single sector. The other three names who participated were Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, and Tommy Sugiarto.
Chico said he was happy to have the opportunity to appear at the 2022 World Championship. The Malaysia Masters 2022 champion also intends not to waste this golden opportunity.
"I am happy to be participating in the World Championship this time. I will try to make the best of this opportunity", said Chico.
Previously, the strength of the men's singles had decreased following the withdrawal of Shesar Hiren Rhustavito. Shesar is said to be not ready to appear because of a calf injury that has not yet recovered.
