Malaysia Masters 2022: Chico Wins Fierce Match Against China, Gregoria Drops in Semifinals

JAKARTA - Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo successfully secured a ticket to the final of the Malaysia Masters 2022. This result was achieved after defeating the Chinese representative, Lu Guang Zu.

At the meeting at Axiata Arena, Malaysia on Saturday, July 9 afternoon, Chiho had to fight hard to win. His struggle for 1 hour 27 minutes finally paid off because the Indonesian men's singles closed the three games with a score of 20-22, 23-22, and 21-19.

In the first game, Chico was left behind by Lu Guang Zu, who from the start appeared extraordinary. Lu Guang Zu took the lead in the first Interval 11-9. Chico's pursuit was not maximal because at the end of the first half he lost 20-22.

In the second game, it was Chico's turn to try to turn things around. His attempt to steal the initial points went smoothly because the second interval was his with a score of 11-9. After the break, Chico continued to shoot and was able to secure a 23-21 victory.

This result forced Chico and Lu Guang Zu to continue the fight to the rubber game to determine victory. The appearance of the two was equally pressing and made the competition tough.

However, Chico who appeared calm was able to outperform every point that Guang Zu tried to steal. After leading 11-8 in the third interval, Chico continued to drift away and eventually sealed a 21-19 victory to advance to the final.

Chico became the first Indonesian representative to pocket a ticket to the final. Because previously Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who appeared first, was eliminated in the semifinals.

Gregoria failed to secure a ticket to the final after meeting the third-seeded South Korean representative, An Se Young. Appearing in three games, Gregoria's struggle was defeated by An Se Young who closed the match with a score of 21-18, 13-21, and 21-8.
