JAKARTA - Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup for the 12th time after winning 2-0 over Athletic Bilbao in the final at the King Fahd International Stadium, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Monday morning WIB.

Real Madrid advanced to the final after eliminating Barcelona 3-2, while Athletic Bilbao won 2-1 over Atletico Madrid.

Both teams pressed each other in the first ten minutes. Athletic Bilbao relied on counter-attacks by utilizing the speed of their forwards, while Real Madrid had more possession of the ball.

In the 18th minute, Real Madrid created the first dangerous chance of the game. Rodrygo provides feedback to Karim Benzema before releasing a shot from the front of the penalty box.

However, goalkeeper Unai Simon's finger still hit the ball and produced a corner for Real Madrid.

Midfielder Toni Kroos scored a corner into the box which Eder Militao headed but the ball was too high from the Athletic Bilbao goal.

Bilbao began to control the ball in the Real Madrid area, but failed to penetrate the disciplined defense of Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

Los Blancos finally scored in the 37th minute. Starting from a stab by Rodrygo from the right side, the Brazilian gave the ball to Luka Modrid who immediately fired without control outside the penalty box to beat Simon.

Athletic Bilbao started the second half in disaster after Benzema's shot in the box hit Marcelino's hand.

The referee decided to award a penalty to Real Madrid after checking VAR footage.

Benzema stepped forward as the executor and the French striker's shot was caught by Simon. However, the pace of the ball was too fast and Madrid was 2-0 up in the 52nd minute.

Athletic tried to catch up in the 74th minute when Dani and Raul Garcia played a one-two combination in which the latter volleyed out Courtois.

In the 82nd minute, substitute Serrano fired home from distance which forced Courtois to save.

Five minutes later, Athletic had a golden opportunity to score when they were awarded a penalty after Eder Militao's handball tried to block Raul Garcia's header.

The referee gave a red card to Militao and pointed to the spot. Raul Garcia stepped up as executioner, but his shot was caught by Courtois.

Despite winning the number of players, Athletic failed to score until the game was finished and Real won the Spanish Super Cup.
