BANYUMAS - Culture Minister Fadli Zon encourages local culture to be developed through various creative media, ranging from films, theater, literacy, podcasts, to digital content. This step is considered important so that cultural heritage remains alive and close to the younger generation.
The statement was made by Fadli when he attended the Banyumas Lengger Bicara 2026 with the theme Gemah Ripah Loh Jinawi at the Teratai Tower, Purwokerto, Friday, June 26.
According to Fadli, culture will survive not only because it is inherited, but because it is continued to be practiced, developed, and given space by the community.
"Culture will remain alive not only because it is inherited, but because it is given space to be practiced, developed, and celebrated together by the community," said Fadli.
He assessed that Banyumas has great cultural wealth, ranging from Lengger Banyumasan, Calung Banyumasan, Ebeg, Buncis, Begalan Art, Ronggeng Banyumasan, to the Banyumasan language with the ngapak dialect.
According to him, this wealth has great opportunities to be developed through various creative platforms to reach more people, especially the younger generation.
Fadli said that this effort was in line with the steps of the Ministry of Culture which continued to strengthen the protection of local culture through community empowerment, the organization of cultural festivals, documentation, and the use of digital technology to promote Indonesian culture to the international level.
He also appreciated the implementation of Banyumas Lengger Bicara 2026 which was initiated by the Lengger Bicara Foundation. According to him, Lengger Banyumas is not only a performance art, but part of the cultural identity which contains the history, values of life, and traditions of the Banyumas people.
Meanwhile, Banyumas Regent Sadewo Tri Lastiono said the theme of Gemah Ripah Loh Jinawi reflects the hope that regional progress will go hand in hand with the preservation of culture. According to him, development is not only measured by infrastructure, but also by the ability to maintain cultural identity.
During the event, the committee also awarded the traditional art masters Peang Penjol and Suliyah through the Tribute to Maestro session as a form of respect for their dedication to preserving Banyumas traditional art.
Fadli hopes that Lengger Banyumas will continue to be a space for cultural dialogue that strengthens regional identity while contributing to the advancement of Indonesian culture.
