Jakarta Has Been Canceled To Host The World Group II Davis Cup Play Offs Between Indonesia Vs Venezuela: Quarantine Rules Are The Problem

JAKARTA – The 2022 Davis Cup World Group II play-off match between Indonesia and Venezuela was canceled in Jakarta. Quarantine-related regulations are a problem.

Indonesia has prepared the Gelora Bung Karno Tennis Stadium in Jakarta as the match arena for the duel, which is scheduled to take place March 4-5, 2022.

"Quarantine rules are the cause. This week we have several options from the ITF Davis Cup Committee," said The Central Board of the All-Indonesian Tennis Association (PP Pelti) Secretary-General Lani Sardadi in an official statement received by VOI, Friday, January 14.

This match will be decisive for Indonesia to stay in World Group II or be relegated to Group III.

Indonesia had to play a playoff match after losing to Barbados at the National Tennis Centre, Saint Michael, Barbados. In the match which took place on 17-18 September 2021, Indonesia lost with a score of 1-3.

At that time, Indonesia came down with a young squad in the most prestigious men's team tennis championship in the world. The only victory achieved by Indonesia at that time was through Justin Barki who won over Kaipo Marshall.

Barki himself lost the fourth and second matches in the doubles when paired with Gunawan Trismuwantara. Meanwhile, Gunawan suffered defeat in the inaugural singles match.

A total of 12 winning countries from the 2022 World Group II play-offs will advance to the 2022 World Group II matches. Meanwhile, the 12 other losing countries will compete in the Group III regional event later in 2022.

The 2022 World Group I and World Group II matches will be played on a home-away basis on 16-17 or 17-18 in September.
