Indonesia National Team is Aware of Cambodia's Disciplinary Game

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team is aware of Cambodia's disciplined game when the two teams meet in the opening match of Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup (AFF Cup) at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor Regency, Monday, July 27.

Indonesian national team head coach John Herdman said Cambodia is a well-organized team that cannot be taken lightly despite losing 1-2 to Singapore in the previous match.

"We saw Cambodia play. They are an organized and very disciplined team. They will be a difficult opponent," Herdman said as quoted by ANTARA, Sunday, July 26.

However, Herdman emphasized that his team's main focus was not on the strength of the opponent, but rather on building a game identity that had begun to be designed since the training camp in Bali.

According to him, the match against Cambodia is an opportunity for the Indonesian national team to strengthen the connection between players, chemistry, and the implementation of tactics developed together.

"Our focus is on our tactical identity, our connection, our chemistry, our spirit. If we put on our best game, I'm sure we'll be fine," he said.

Herdman admitted that Cambodia had an advantage because they had played one match in the tournament, so they were more ready in terms of the rhythm of the game.

"Cambodia has played one match so they have a good rhythm. They will be ready, but we have to focus on what we are building together," he said.

Meanwhile, Indonesian national team goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata ensured the Garuda squad did not take Cambodia lightly even though their opponents lost in the opening match.

"We watched Cambodia's match against Singapore, but that doesn't make us think they are an easy team to beat. We remain focused on our own game identity and running the coach's instructions," said Nadeo.

Indonesia will face Cambodia in the opening match of Group A of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup at Pakansari Stadium, Bogor Regency, Monday, July 27 at 20.30 WIB.

The victory will be an important capital for the Garuda squad to compete for tickets to the next round.
