Palembang City Government Prepares Pet Microchip Installation To Make Free-Rabies Transmission

JAKARTA - The Palembang City Government together with the Executive Board of the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PB PDHI) are preparing to install microchips on pets to make the capital area of ​​the South Sumatra Province free of rabies-transmitting animals.

As reported by Antara, Friday, October 15, to install the device on the pet, currently, officers are conducting data collection on owned pets, especially dogs, said Mayor of Palembang Harnojoyo in Palembang.

Devices that can store digital data will be inserted into the pet's body to become data or biodata of pets and their owners.

In addition to installing a microchip on the dog/pet, his party will also issue a policy that stipulates that Palembang residents are not allowed to keep more than five dogs.

Meanwhile, for wild animals that are not owned, his party will collect data by collecting them in a special shelter (shelter) and giving rabies vaccination.

Through these efforts, it is hoped that Bumi Sriwijaya will be completely free from pets that have the potential to transmit rabies, said Mayor Harnojoyo.

Meanwhile, the Head of PB PDHI, DR.Drh.M. Munawarah, during a working visit in Palembang recently said that his party supports the program to eradicate animals that have the potential to transmit rabies in the city of Pempek.

Rabies is a deadly disease in the form of an acute infection caused by the rabies virus which is transmitted through the bite, scratch, or lick of an animal that is positive for rabies, such as dogs, cats, monkeys, and several other animals.

Seeing the danger of the disease, pet owners who have the potential to transmit rabies will be encouraged to pay attention to the health of their pets and provide rabies vaccines as an effort to make Palembang clean from rabies in accordance with the central government program, said Munawarah.
