WAMENA - Several health centers in Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province, do not yet have general practitioners or pharmacists, said Jayawijaya Health Service Head, Willy Mambieuw.

"From the results of the workload analysis for health centers as a whole, we really do have a shortage, both doctors and pharmacists. Frankly, several health centers in Jayawijaya do not yet have general practitioners, let alone pharmacists", he said in Wamena, quoted by Antara, Friday, October 8.

According to him, the Health Office is trying to fill the shortage of doctors and pharmacists at the health centers by employing contract workers.

"We use the contract first, then from the workload analysis, we attach it to the local government for if there are employee recruitments, we from the service have included the personnel we need to receive", he said.

Willy said that at every health center there should be at least two doctors, namely general practitioners and specialists.

In addition, he explained that the number of health centers available in the Jayawijaya Regency area was also not sufficient to reach all residents.

According to him, Jayawijaya Regency has 40 districts that are geographically not easy to reach but only have 27 health centers.

"One district should have one health center but now there are 27", he said.
