JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) welcomes the offer of National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo to withdraw Novel Baswedan and his 56 employees who will be dismissed on September 30.

Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, even hoped that Listyo's wishes could increase the competence of the National Police in eradicating corruption in the country. Moreover, the KPK will continue to collaborate and synergize with the Bhayangkara Corps.

"With this process, we hope to increase the competence of the National Police in the realm of eradicating corruption in Indonesia. The KPK will continue to collaborate in synergy with the National Police in eradicating and preventing corruption," said Ghufron in a written statement, Wednesday, September 29.

Ghufron said that his party handed over the entire further recruitment process for Novel Baswedan et al to the Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform of the Republic of Indonesia (KemenPANRB) and the State Civil Service Agency (BKN) in accordance with applicable regulations.

"This is in line with the spirit of the KPK to continue to pay attention to the fate of KPK employees who are declared TMS (Not Eligible) in the process of transferring the status of KPK employees," said Ghufron.

In addition, the KPK again ensured that the process of transferring the status of KPK employees to State Civil Apparatus (ASN) was in accordance with the procedures and applicable laws and regulations. Not only that, but the KPK leadership has also tried to fight for the fate of its employees through coordination meetings with a number of stakeholders.

"But the result is that 56 KPK employees cannot be transferred to KPK State Civil Apparatus (ASN) because the results of the National Insight Test (TWK) were carried out and determined by BKN. 56 KPK employees are declared TMS so they cannot be transferred to ASNs," he said.

It was previously reported that 57 employees were declared unable to work at the KPK because they could not become ASN according to the mandate of the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019 as of the end of September. The employees include senior KPK investigators Novel Baswedan and Ambarita Damanik, Chairman of the KPK Employee Forum Yudi Purnomo, KPK investigator Harun Al-Rasyid, and dozens of other names.

The KPK argues that their inability to become ASN is not due to laws and regulations such as Perkom KPK Number 1 of 2021 but because of the results of their assessment.

Ahead of the dismissal, the National Police Chief admitted that he wanted to recruit 56 KPK employees who did not pass the TWK to become ASNs of the National Police (Polri). This wish was conveyed in a letter to President Jokowi last week and was approved.

There is also the reason Sigit wants to recruit tens of these employees because the Police need human resources to strengthen the line of prosecution of corruption cases. Moreover, the National Police is currently also focusing on handling the COVID-19 recovery.
