Anies' Subordinate Reduces The Formula E Event From Initially 5 Years To 3 Years Until 2024

JAKARTA - The DKI Communications, Informatics, and Statistics (Diskominfotik) Department revealed the latest developments regarding the plan to organize Formula E in Jakarta.

This is based on an agreement between Regional-owned Enterprise (BUMD) PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro) and Formula E Operation (FEO).

Initially, Formula E will be held for 5 years. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Formula E plan, which was originally held in 2020 for 5 times, was postponed to 2022 and its implementation was reduced to 3 years.

"Due to the pandemic, there has been a review of all Formula E collaborations in all cities. The result of the new agreement between Jakpro and FEO is that the implementation period is adjusted to 3 years, namely 2022, 2023, and 2024," wrote the DKI Provincial Government statement on Wednesday, September 29.

The DKI Provincial Government said that three years is the right time to maximize the benefits of implementing Formula E and its economic impact.

Reportedly a number of countries that organize Formula E suffered losses and stopped racing titles after one event.

In fact, according to the subordinate of the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, infrastructure investment will be optimal if it is used not only for a one-time event.

"It would be detrimental if Formula E was only implemented once because the cost of racing infrastructure, which is one of the largest posts, was not utilized several times," he said.

The DKI Provincial Government emphasized that the commitment fee payment charged from the DKI Regional Budget (APBD) was only made from the 2019 APBD. After the pandemic, the annual commitment fee payment was no longer paid.

"There are no more costs incurred from the APBD, both for commitment fees and future implementation costs," he added.
