Anticipating Floods, Natural Resources Sub-Department Asked To Quickly Check Door And Water Pump Readiness

JAKARTA - The Central Jakarta City Government has asked the Central Jakarta Water Resources Sub-dept. to ensure that the water pumps and sluice gates are functioning properly. This was done to prevent flooding.

"I hope that the Central Jakarta Natural resources Sub-dept. in preventing inundation and flooding will ensure that the doors and water pumps function properly", said Central Jakarta Mayor Dhany Sukma when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, September 14.

Dhany said it is estimated that the rainy season will occur in November. The Natural resources Sub-Department is expected to check all sluice gates and water pumps to ensure they are still functioning properly.

"In addition, make sure the channel must be free of obstacles and sedimentation of thick river mud and do dredging", he said.

Contacted separately, the Head of the Central Jakarta Natural resources Sub-Department, Abdul Rauf Gaffar, said that his party agreed with what the Mayor of Central Jakarta said regarding the handling of inundation.

"Yes, Mr. Wali, that's what was explained earlier. Regarding the handling of the inundation, let me see first, yes (the field)", he said when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, September 14.
