Invite Russia, China To Iran At Announcement Of New Government, Taliban Prepares Revision Of Afghanistan Constitution

JAKARTA - Afghanistan's constitution will be rewritten or amended under a new government, as the Panjshir region wins with the Taliban planning to invite Russia, China, and Iran to announce the new government.

Afghanistan's constitution will be rewritten or amended under a new government, said Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid, Monday.

"Once the system (of government) is approved, we will start working on the constitution, it will be rewritten or amended", Mujahid said at a press conference, citing Sputnik September 6.

Afghanistan's constitution was approved in January 2004 and signed by then Afghan President Hamid Karzai. The Afghan constitution itself is known to consist of 162 articles.

Earlier, Mujahid said the Taliban had taken full control of Panjshir, saying the war in Afghanistan was over and a new government would be announced in the next few days. However, this claim was denied by the opposition group led by Ahmad Massoud.

"Last night and this morning, Panjshir was completely under control. Thus, the war in Afghanistan has ended. There is no longer any excuse for that. It is time to rebuild our country", Zabiullah Mujahid told a press conference.

The Taliban spokesman assured that no civilians were injured in the clashes in Panjshir. In addition, Mujahid said several countries, such as Turkey, China, Russia, Qatar, Pakistan, and Iran would be invited to the announcement of the new Afghan government.

"The new government will be announced in the next few days. Invitations have been sent to several countries to attend the new government declaration ceremony", citing Shamshad News, added Mujahid.

To note, this is the second statement made by the Taliban about the end of the war in Afghanistan. The first time they did so was on August 16, the day after they had captured Kabul.
