Sufficient Facts, TPDI Asks KPK To Immediately Name Azis Syamsuddin As A Suspect

JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Democracy Defending Team (TPDI) Petrus Salestinus asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to immediately name the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament, Azis Syamsuddin, as a suspect.

Petrus, in his statement received in Jakarta, Saturday, September 4, stated that the fact that Azis was involved in the alleged corruption case of buying and selling positions involving the Mayor of Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra M Syahrial, and former KPK investigator Stepanus Robin Pattuju was very clear.

"The legal facts revealed in Syahrial's trial and the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) examination of Robin further clarify Azis' role and involvement. Azis seems to be trying to hinder the investigation of Syahrial's alleged corruption at the KPK," said Petrus.

He also quoted the statement of KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri on April 24, 2021, who mentioned Azis' role in facilitating and helping to bring Robin and Syahrial together.

It is known that on April 24, 2021, a KPK press conference was attended by Firli regarding the detention of Syahrial, who had previously been named a suspect along with Robin and advocate Maskur Husain in the alleged bribery case related to the handling of the case for the Mayor of Tanjungbalai for the years 2020-2021.

Then, he said, in the reading of the indictment against Syahrial by the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) on July 12, 2021, Azis had explained the role of Azis in stopping the case.

It was also mentioned that Azis played a role in facilitating Syahrial to meet with Robin at the house of the Deputy Speaker of the DPR. Furthermore, the facts of the trial related to Syahrial's agreement to pay Rp1.5 billion to Robin to stop the investigation.

Another fact, continued Petrus as reported by Antara, was the result of the investigation and the decision of the KPK Council which stated that Robin received Rp3.15 billion from Azis. The money was allegedly used to stop a case in Central Lampung related to Aliza Gunado.

"From these facts, there have been several corruption cases involving Azis. Starting from bribery, conspiracy to stop the investigation, and prohibition for KPK employees from meeting the party being investigated by the KPK. The suspect is accompanied by detention, considering that Azis' ban period will end soon," said Petrus.

Therefore, he reminded the KPK not to delay in taking action against Azis. The reason is that it can create a "post factum" which is a new mode of denying the facts resulting from the investigation.

The "post factum" will confuse the facts from the KPK investigations and even the results of the KPK Council examination which states that the total funds received by Robin from Syahrial amounted to Rp10 billion.

"Azis Syamsuddin said that he only gave Rp200 million to Robin as a loan. Even though during the investigation and examination of the KPK Council, it was not revealed. This is a new mode in the form of "post factum", closed Petrus.
