JK Mentions National Vaccination To Be Completed In Two Years

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Jusuf Kalla (JK) predicts that the injection of the COVID-19 vaccine for 200 million Indonesians will be completed within two years at the earliest.

This was stated by JK while reviewing the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccination held by the Hasanuddin University Alumni Association at the Nindya Karya Building, East Jakarta, Sunday, August 29.

"From the start, I said it was difficult to complete it in one year, maybe two years it will be completed," said the 10th and 12th Vice Presidents of Indonesia in Jakarta, as reported by Antara.

JK's prediction is based on his calculations if each Indonesian population gets two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so that at least 400 million doses of vaccine are needed for 200 million people.

"If we estimate that 200 million Indonesians must receive the vaccine if each person has to be injected twice, it means 400 million doses must be injected," he explained.

Although the government targets to inject 1,000,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine per day, continued JK, the realization of the achievement is only half or around 500,000 doses per day.

"Our target is 1,000,000 per day, which means it will take 400 days. And it turns out that the average achievement (as much as) 500,000 per day, means that it can be completed in two years at the earliest," he said.

Meanwhile, based on data from the COVID-19 Task Force (Satgas) as many as 34,702,821 Indonesians have received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine and as many as 61,222,258 residents have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine as of Saturday, August 28.

The government targets 208,265,720 residents to get the COVID-19 vaccine to form communal immunity or herd immunity against COVID-19.
