Reminding The BLBI Obligors To Be Cooperative, Including Tommy Suharto, Mahfud MD: We Are Firm On This Matter!

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD asked obligors and debtors to cooperate with Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) to comply with the summons and immediately settle their debts to the state.

He said that if the obligor and debtor were not cooperative, they could be charged with corruption, even though the government is currently trying to resolve it by civil means.

"Please cooperate. We will be firm about this because we were given time by the state, by the President not long, given until December 2023", Mahfud said in his video statement to reporters, Wednesday, August 25.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) said that his party had also summoned the Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, and National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to ensnare obligors and debtors who are absent and do not want to pay their debts.

"If the debtors are absent, do not acknowledge the debt even though there is a clear document on the debt, it could be this case, even though we resolve it civilly, we can turn it into a criminal case. It could be corruption", he said.

"Because this is people's money. The people are in trouble now, they can't get anything and the debt is in the name of the state formally and then it is not paid. This is not allowed", added Mahfud.

Furthermore, he confirmed that 48 BLBI obligors and debtors would be summoned, including Hutomo Mandala Putra or Tommy Suharto. Mahfud said the debt of the son of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto, amounted to IDR 2.6 billion.

However, this amount is not the largest because there are still debts of up to tens of trillions so that the total to be paid by all obligors and debtors reaches IDR 111 trillion.

"So all of them will be called. There are those in Singapore, Bali, Medan, we all call and all have to pay to the state", he concluded.
