Rape Cases Of Underage Children, This Is What Criminologist Lucky Nurhadiyanto Said Following The Prevention

JAKARTA - The rape incident that occurred in Makassar recently became a public concern. The victim is known to be under the age of 14. While the perpetrators numbered 5 people were drunk. Ironically, the victim's meeting with the perpetrator started from social media.

The use of social media will be very beneficial if used correctly. On the other hand, it will be a problem if you are not careful and not wise. As stated by criminologist Lucky Nurhadiyanto, M.Si, meetings or introductions through social media networks have vulnerabilities. Because cases of rape or sexual harassment that started from social media are not uncommon.

“The rape that occurred was classified as date rape. Social ties in serious ties are biased by commitment and belief. Moreover, the relationship that exists begins with introductions on social media and is relatively new. So, both the perpetrator and the victim are still at the stage of seeking attention”, Lucky told VOI, Monday, August 16.

Victims who are still underage are also an opportunity for perpetrators to carry out their actions. And according to Lucky, victims can be tricked by persuasion and seduction. Moreover, if it is known that there is alcohol influence, then there is no social control in this group.

"Attention ultimately leads to underage victims, weak social relations between the two, and the perpetrator's intentions. Rape is also triggered by the perpetrator's efforts to create an opportunity to deceive the victim, either by seduction, promises, to appearances. Not only that, the absence of social control through binge drinking further triggers internal stimuli", Lucky explained.

To avoid the same case, Lucky gave three important points, namely:

1. Increasing self-awareness to avoid becoming a suitable target, by minimizing contact with newly known people, especially in interacting on social media.

2. The role of self, peer group, and family to provide education about digital literacy, for example how to build relationships via social media.

3. Third, understanding that women, parents, and children have a high vulnerability as victims.

Lucky assessed that the level of supervision of the activities of young women had potential risks. In this case, getting to know new people and considering the hours of activity out of the house at night.
