JAKARTA - Israel ranks second in the world after the United States in innovative solutions during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new report by research center StartupBlink. Israel managed to outperform Canada, Belgium, and Switzerland among the top spots.
“If there is one message from the COVID-19 crisis and the mapping of innovation by StartupBlink, it is this, innovators can and have risen to the challenge,” said Pradeep Kakkattil, director of the innovation office at UNAIDS, as quoted by The Jerusalem Post, August 3.
"It's time for the world to invest in leveraging these solutions to save lives now", continued Pradeep Kakkattil.
As one of the countries that routinely conducts research and innovation, Israel has recorded 38 innovations during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a list of 1,300 compiled by StartupBlink.
"Israel is a relatively small country that has always excelled in innovation. It is not surprising that Israel has gone overboard in creating solutions to combat the COVID-19 pandemic", the report said.
"In addition to generating innovation, Israel has also spread mass vaccinations faster than any other country in the world", the report continued.
Interestingly, Israel occupies the top position in the prevention, treatment, and diagnostic categories. The report said several innovations were chosen as the most prominent.
One of them is the Temi Robot, which was designed in Tel Aviv. This robot has been used in hospitals in China, Japan to the United States, allowing COVID-19 patients to consult doctors, automating the process of measuring temperature remotely.
Meanwhile, Haifa-based Resmetrix has developed a wearable breathing monitoring system that accurately monitors the breathing patterns of patients with respiratory diseases (such as those with asthma). Sends alerts to the patient's smartphone and the medical team when the first signs of respiratory damage occur.
The Vaccine Tracker managed in Tel Aviv is also considered essential as a live dashboard of how the COVID-19 vaccine is administered around the world. Teva Pharmaceuticals is also recognized as the best in the production process for the drug Chloroquine.
